ABOUT THE UPWARD BOUND PROGRAM:
The TRiO Upward Bound Program strives to develop students' academic & professional skills, motivate students to attend and complete secondary education and encourage students to pursue and complete a post-secondary diploma.

The Student Advisor helps provide college preparation services to a caseload of 25-50 high school students in target school districts within Genesee and Wyoming County.
These services include, but are not limited to, one-on-one advising, help with college preparations and financial literacy education, monitoring of academic progress, college visits, career and cultural activity trips, student and parent workshops, and some evening and Saturday tutoring.
The Student Advisor will also work closely with the Program Director to develop and implement academic and summer program curriculums.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBLITIES:
Work within the grant guidelines; and assist in achieving program objectives.
Provide in-school advisement, present workshops, and monitor and identify students' needs for tutoring, counseling, and personal development.
Communicate with parents on a regular basis of the students' progress and of the program activities.
Also assist with annual parent meetings.
Monitor progress of graduating seniors as they submit college applications, complete financial aid forms and apply for scholarships.

Maintain a productive, professional relationship with target schools' faculty and staff, local businesses, and community agencies.
Help identify and coordinate community service projects and job shadow opportunities.
Participate in staff meetings.
When applicable, present professional development workshops.
Keep accurate records of all student interactions with program and work closely with the Administrative Coordinator.
Make referrals for services as needed.
Complete all required paperwork/reports and submit in a timely manner.
Fulfill other responsibilities and tasks as assigned by the Program Director.
Job Requirements:
EDUCATION Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in School Counseling, Education, Business Administration, or related area.
EXPERIENCE Three years minimum working with secondary school youth and school counseling and/or the postsecondary admission and financial aid process and career counseling required.
Preference is given for experience working with youth from low income, first generation college student families.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Preference is given to individuals:
1) Having backgrounds similar to the target population, worked for a TRiO program, and/or are TRiO alumni, 2) Demonstrated ability to relate effectively and work independently with low income, first-generation college youths and their parents/guardians, target school personnel, local postsecondary institutions, and collaborating agencies, and 3) Able to demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity.
Knowledge of high school degree requirements, college admissions procedures, student learning styles, and financial literacy desired.
Candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively, do group presentations, keep detailed records, and provide adequate follow-up.
Must be able to demonstrate strong computer skills and be proficient at Microsoft Office programs.
Additional Information:
SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a 12 month, year-round (including summers) grant-funded appointment.
Full time hours are equivalent to 35 hours per week.
Occasional overtime may be required.
Full-time position salary, benefits, and conditions of employment are as set by the GEA contract.
Candidate is required to work some evenings and weekends, travel overnight with students, and have reliable transportation.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
