Full time HARM REDUCTION COUNSELOR - OPEN ACCESS position available with addictions recovery program in Batavia, Genesee County, NY.
Description of Duties and
Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision, the Counselor will perform evidence-based assessments and use evidenced-based practices (including but not limited to Motivational Interviewing) and therapeutic methods to support people with SUD who do not have an immediate goal of abstinence through connections to harm reduction and recovery support, additional levels of care as needed and wanted, and individual and group therapy that takes a harm reduction approach and validates the choices of people who use drugs while not minimizing risks and dangers.
The Counselor will provide support in the community and will assist with expanded Open Access as well as with Syringe Exchange and other harm reduction program support.
The aim of this position will be to motivate positive changes that reduce harm and increase wellness.
Miscellaneous tasks may be assigned.
This is a grant funded position.
GCASA is a CARF and NHSC accredited.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Minimum BA Degree in Human Service related field.
CASAC preferred, with two years full-time paid direct service experience in a recognized human service agency - with direct service experience in field of addiction and mental health or equivalent.
Must be active addiction free.
Pre-employment background check/post-offer drug screening required.
EOE Supervisory Relationships:
This position is under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Grants and Projects.
This position supervises no other positions.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, other evidence-based counseling practices and approaches; ability to write and commitment to provide high-quality client progress notes in a timely manner; commitment to complete grant data requirements in a timely manner.
Amount of Travel and Other Special Conditions or Requirements:
Local travel within Genesee and Orleans Counties will be required.
Travel outside of these regions may be required occasionally.
Valid NYS driver's license and method of transportation required.

5 FTE based on a 35-hour work week.
Pay Range:
$18-$22 per hour.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
